08 Apr Fon Facts: Megan
We’re a small but mighty team at Fon, a close-knit bunch and that loves what we do.
And when you step into the salon, we want you to feel welcome and part of our tribe. We also want you to know exactly who’s standing behind the chair and looking after your hair.
So allow us to introduce you to Fon Facts – a fun little series we’ve created so you can get to know us better!
Next up: our goddess of good brows and beautiful makeup, Megan.
Alex knew there was an extra team member needed at Fon – but not another hairstylist. No. It had to be someone with extraordinary superpowers in brows and makeup!
After searching high and low, a chance conversation with not one but two Fon clients yielded the same result: Megan “Powerhouse” Pilkington.
And so, over a cup of tea, a friendship was formed and Megan soon moved into Fon – and has become part of the fabulous furniture!
Let’s have a chat with brow and makeup guru…
How did you begin your career in brows and makeup?
In school I always loved art and it really stemmed from there. I did some modelling in my teens and that’s when I realised that makeup artistry was something that I could pursue as a career. So at the age of 17, I completed a year-long fulltime Makeup Artistry course and have worked in the industry ever since. I can’t quite believe it but I’m coming up to 20 years as a Makeup Artist and over 12 years as an Eyebrow Specialist!
What’s your beauty super power?
My makeup superpower is being able to create beautiful glowing flawless skin, and bringing out my clients’ own individual natural beauty.
Claim to fame/career highlight?
I am lucky enough to have had many amazing opportunities and the first one happened right at the beginning of my career. I was just 18 and promoted to manager of the cosmetics store I had been working at while I completed my makeup studies. From there I have had many highlights, however, in all honesty, the work I am most proud of is the work I do to help others including women who are victims of domestic violence, women undertaking medical treatment and I am also a mentor to a lovely young lady with disabilities. I feel very lucky to have found a way to use my makeup skills to be able to uplift and bring confidence to those who need it the most.
How often do you wash your hair?
Every second day.
What product/tool can you not live without?
An eyebrow pencil!
What do you love most about being part of the Fon crew?
I love the cool vibe of the salon and being part of such a supportive and motivational team. After a busy day at Fon, I always leave feeling uplifted and with a massive smile on my face!
Where can we find you when you’re not in the salon?
When I’m not at Fon I am either working from my home studio, out on locations for photoshoots and weddings, or hanging out with my husband (Steve) and our two boys (Josh, 11 and Riley, 7).
